Life in the Lion City - Places

Ok ... things are always changing in the Lion City ... its a city that's in constant flux ... there is always some form of construction going on and the skyline and street fronts are forever evolving ... but there are some places where you can seek quiet and solitude, and none better than the meeting of Armenian and Coleman Streets, where Singapore's oldest church - the Armenian Church - rests tranquilly in the shadow of Fort Canning Park.

We stumbled on this area after spending time at Funan Centre which is the Electronics mega mall de plus - its worth a bit of a window shop, especially for accessories (no not the wearing kind, the electronic/computer kind). You are spoilt for choice, and better yet, have almost infinite pricing options.

You can wander the grounds of the Armenian church and learn about this lesser known (well at least outside of Singapore) community and its migrational origins. You can also pay your respects at Agnes Joachim's grave. She discovered the Vanda Miss Joachim orchid - Singapore's national flower.

From here is a light stroll past the Peranakan Museum, the artsy enclave known as Substation ...

down to the Singapore Museum ...

I'm still reeling at the fact that where the National Library once stood is the Fort Canning Express Tunnel ... I spent many a childhood hour at that old 50s clinker style building, listening to old music and dreaming of a better life ....
